6 March 2009:
You can now donate (and encourage others to do the same!) at Just Giving. It is very easy. Just click on the link below or on our Donating webpage.

Donate now!

Just one thing – please do NOT use this for your annual subscription or lottery subscription, as we shall lose track of your membership if you do.
Please continue to deal with these in the usual way - details on the website or in Viva!

12 January 2009:
The SCKPA lottery has been running since March 2008 and has so far raised a total of £552.50 for the SCKPA. Up to the end of December there had been three individual winners winning approximately £100 each.

There are currently about 30 people playing weekly. The more people who play the bigger the donation to SCKPA (and the prize fund!), so please do encourage your friends and relatives to buy a line a week for £1 - payments can be made by standing order and if you are making one payment on behalf of several people why not get them to save their £1 coins (and any other loose change) in a SCKPA change box.

Lottery tickets to complete plus the standing order form are available on the lottery page or printed in every copy of Viva!

12 November 2008: A book produced by Muriel Crecraft and Ian Mathie to raise funds for the SCKPA.

Available at SCKPA General and Branch meetings or from Committee members for £5.
Or by post for £5 (+70p postage) from:

Muriel Crecraft
4 Churchfield Lane,
Benson,
Oxon,

You can print a poster from here.

11 August 2008: NKF Press Release

"The NKF is incensed by the decision of NICE to turn down the Kidney Cancer drugs.  A campaign to fight this has
begun and NKF will be demanding an appeal in order to argue against the NICE decision.

Please approach your own MP about this dreadful decision.  We are also requesting all interested parties to write to NICE immediately.
Our website www.kidney.org.uk seen by 200,000 people each year, now has this banner message scrolling across its homepage in pride of place - it says :
"NICE ( National Institute for Clinical Excellence ) have announced that they will not agree to the NHS funding the four latest drugs to those patients suffering Cancer of the Kidney (Bevacizumab, sorafenib, sunitinib and temsirolimus).  THE NKF made a submission to NICE arguing that these drugs should be available - and will appeal against this decision. The NKF asks you to let NICE know your own views on this matter - please do this now. Write to "Renal Cell Carcinoma Appraisal", NICE, MidCity Place, 71 High Holborn, London, WC1V 6NA."

The National Kidney Federation represents 40,000 patients with End Stage Renal Failure (ESRF), and a further 3 million with some form of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).  All these people have reason to fear for their future. This decision by NICE is barbaric, damaging and unacceptable – it is as if NICE have no regard for their lives. If the NHS looks to bank balances before treating patients then it has truly lost its way.
The NKF is mustering its troops.
Ray Mackey
Chairman
– National Kidney Federation"
