Organ Donation

Changes in English law on organ donation are coming into effect from spring 2020.
Read how these changes may affect you.

Click the Organ Donor Register link for the NHS website with information on organ donation,
The site offers four options:

  • Register to be a donor

  • Register not to be a donor

  • Amend your registration

  • Withdraw from the register

If you are registered as a donor, consider carrying an organ donation card.

  • An Organ Donor Card is a great way to show you’re committed to saving lives.
  • You can carry your card in your purse or wallet as a symbol of your decision to help others.
  • However, you don’t need to carry an Organ Donor Card for your organs to be donated though as medical staff will always consult the NHS Organ Donor Register if your organs could be used to help others when you die.
  • Before the removal of organs takes place, NHS Blood and Transplant would ask your family to support your decision to donate and to provide important information about you.

For more information click the organ donor card link.

The NHS Organ Donor Register keeps a record of people's details and donation choices. If you would like to be an organ donor in the event of your death please register your decision and preferences.

Register not to be a donor

Choose this option to record a decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register NOT to donate your organs and tissue after your death. Please tell your family about your decision.

Amend your registration

Choose this option to update your existing record with changes to personal details such as a new address, name change or to change your preferences for organ and tissue donation. Please tell your family if your organ or tissue donation preferences have changed.
